Brendan Isaac Jones created Greensaw Design & Build in 2006. His goals were to introduce a firm dedicated to green building, kindness to clients, and impeccable work.
The company emphasized using reclaimed material. Brendan began installing salvage doors, moved on to renovating bathrooms and making furniture, then completed an entire home in the Rittenhouse area of Philadelphia with salvage baseboard, casement windows, doors, colonnades and mantles.
In light of the recent building boom in Philadelphia, Brendan also believed that design was suffering from a gap in communication between clients and contractors. After years of working in the carpentry trade – in unions, timber frame shops, on demolition, renovation, and barn-building crews – Brendan came to believe that the process of building – where one person has an idea and another has the ability to execute that idea – is a collaboration between builder and client, a process that begins with a conversation. At Greensaw this conversation continues throughout the project – and often afterwards.
