Brendan Isaac Jones created Greensaw Design & Build in 2006. His goals were to introduce a firm dedicated to green building, kindness to clients, and impeccable work.

The company emphasized using reclaimed material. Brendan began installing salvage doors, moved on to renovating bathrooms and making furniture, then completed an entire house in the Rittenhouse area of Philadelphia with salvage baseboard, casement, doors, colonnades and mantles.

In light of the recent building boom in Philadelphia Brendan also believed that clients were being treated as cash withdrawal machines, while contractors were becoming factories of production. After years of working in the carpentry trade – in unions, timber frame shops, on demo, renovation, and barn-building crews – Brendan came to believe that the process of building – where one person has an idea and another has the skill to execute that idea – is a collaboration between builder and client, a relationship that must begin with a conversation. At Greensaw this conversation continues until the project is finished – and often afterwards.
