Jenkintown Bathroom

Client: Richard & Nanette Forti
Location: Jenkintown, VA
Project Manager: Niko Dyshniku

The job started over a can of Coors Light, in earnest. Walking through Rick and Nan's 1870s home with Rick pointing out with an exactitude we would become accustomed to what would happen here, where this closet would end up. You got one more of those?

Yet, after two months and of commuting from Philly to Jenkintown, we had a different home before us. This was due, in large part, to the vision of Rick and Nan. Their commitment to using green and salvaged materials – in the kitchen, their three (which soon became four) bathrooms, the laundry room – was inspiring. Nan found pieces that made us drool, and Rick encouraged us to take existing cabinets and, instead of replacing them, incorporate their design into the new bathroom. In short, Rick and Nan were open to – and offering of – creative solutions to the problems an old home presents.

The donuts and cookies and coffee in the morning brought in by Nan helped too, at least until the sugar rush wore off.

In the end this job allowed us, alongside the vision of the clients, combine new green solutions with salvaged materials.

Client Testimonial

"Our home needed some changes that were beyond our 'do-it-yourself' abilities. We needed a contractor that could help us enhance the charm of our 119-year-old home, use new and recycled items that were as "green" as possible, and work with our very neat, albeit challenging antique finds. And, they had to make that long trek to the suburbs.

Enter Greensaw Design and Build. Brendan and his crew of magicians accomplished everything on our list and more! They helped to define (and in some cases refine) our concepts. From discovering/restoring the original hardwood floor in the kitchen, and making a small awkward nook into a unique bathroom retreat, to finally giving the antique kitchen sink we hauled around the country a creative use.

Today we have a home whose original warmth and character have been enhanced. We have a terrific kitchen that combines the old with the new and a master bathroom that is full of items that were salvaged from the past yet is elegant and modern. Even the little bathroom with the old corner sink and basement door that was transformed into a pocket door, well, it just makes us smile.

Brendan's greatest asset is his customer focus. He is responsive, listened intently, and stood by the work of he and his crew. The team consistently arrived on time (even from Philly to the burbs!), had calm demeanors, a great sense of humor, and amicably accepted any changes we threw at them. Their exceptional attention to detail in tiling and use of reclaimed marble transformed ordinary spaces into artistic displays.

It couldn't have worked out better. We have a very, very cool Home. The renovations were made from the things we love, by people who cared as much about it as we did. Would we have them back again in a heartbeat."
