Greensaw works with Old Soul Architecture on projects in Philadelphia's inner-city schools in an effort to use salvage material to built planter beds for gardens. We start out by taking a chainsaw to the joists, and cutting the wood to the requested size. Then it's off to school, lagging the wood together and drinking kool-aid while the kids take wheelbarrows full of dirt to dump into the planters. We are repaid for our donated time with some cherry tomatoes down the line, or just seeing a healthy garden growing out of wood that was once put to the curb, in neighborhoods that have been, for quite some time now, put to the curb. The blend of teaching kids carpentry along with how to grown their own food is a good one, and we are proud to be playing a part.
