Dan Stanislaw | Craftsman | Abe | email Dan
Raised in Blairstown, NJ by Polish immigrants, Dan has spent a good chunk of his life trying to make heads or tails out of growing up in rural New Jersey, exploring and working outdoors on the fringe of the world's notorious city. The struggle landed him at Greensaw – basically a bunch of folks living in the city who dream of being out of the city but really need the city – it's complicated. One of the symptoms of Dan's struggle was shaving his beard to look like Abraham Lincoln, or an Amish farmer. That was pretty cool, for a day or two. In any case it earned him his nickname.
Tired of making sense of it all, Dan moved to Raleigh, NC for four years, where he earned a master's degree in architecture from North Carolina State University. He did post and beam work with Belton Carpentry in his hometown, worked in a design/build studio with Bryan Bell in New Orleans, and spent a year in Chile, where he enjoyed the warm informality of the culture. Dan's calm demeanor and perfectionist attitude dovetails nicely into working with reclaimed material. He's taking Polish classes, and word on the street is that he's a mean soccer player.
