Vermont Floors
Client: Thorsten Dennerline
Location: Bennington, Vermont
Project Manager: Brendan Jones
When someone invites you up to Vermont, it's hard to say no. Especially in the dog days of summer here in Philly. Thorsten, a professor of printmaking at Bennington College, was sold on the idea of using sinker pine from the Chesapeake Bay. Cured by sea salt, the wood had striations of purple and grey that would amplify the pleasure of any LSD trip.
Niko, who travels around with a bottle of sea salt wherever he goes for whatever food he encounters, didn't eat salt for four days. I couldn't stop drinking water. At the end of the day we had a film of chalk over our lips and eyes. It felt like we had spent the day in the ocean.
Working for an artist is never easy - their eyes are different. So we paid extra attention to every detail - and it worked out. Wood previously at the bottom of the Chesapeake Bay now exists as flooring in Vermont. And it saves Thorsten from having to buy salt each week...
Client Testimonial
"These guys are, in a word, great. They are not run-of-the-mill contractors; they are artists. They are also true professionals. It was such a luxury to trust their craftsmanship so completely, yet still feel listened to. Not only do they have wonderful consideration of detail, they also care about the timeliness of the project, and were respectful of my budget. As if this isn't enough, Greensaw is a business with a social conscience. They have a sincere and heartfelt commitment to environmental responsibility; this is not a case of misusing the word "green" - green practices of reclaiming material and careful use of resources are clearly and totally reflected in their practice.
I highly recommend Greensaw."
