Art Museum Area Kitchen Renovation
Client: Doris Stahl
Location: Art Museum Area, Philadelphia
Project Manager: Dave Wing
Master gardener Doris Stahl said let there be light. We were all too happy to play god.
We ripped off her old summer kitchen, poured new piers, built a new back of the house, and the light poured in. The kitchen we built from white oak harvested from joist material from Front & Market in Old City. We laid down salvaged yellow pine in the new addition, and patched her existing flooring before sanding down and refinishing the space.
With the help of Doris we drew up the cabinetry with a book of Japanese fine carpentry close by. The simplicity and clean lines of the cabinetry layout highlighted the beauty of the reclaimed oak. We designed a custom dishrack over Doris' sink built to the size of the plateware.
Red cabbage, tomatoes, herbs, eggplant, and extensive gardening advice at the hands of Doris made this job about more than just the work. We were sad to leave what became a home away from home. We look forward to a harvest meal, enjoying with Doris the kitchen we teamed up to create.
Client Testimonial
"I don't know of another person who can say that they had such a Positive experience with a contractor as I had with Greensaw! The whole crew is extremely mindful of the impact they make on the client, the home space and the neighbors (block), showing a great deal of respect coming into your home and practically living with you for weeks or months at a time. Most contractors take over – lots of trucks and vans and equipment and dumpsters taking up parking spots and the sidewalk. Greensaw doesn't work that way – their big footprint is their work; the environmental footprint is wonderfully small. And they become friends!
I love the creativity that's part of the process of designing the use of the recycled materials and the care and pride that's part of creating quality work. My kitchen is beautiful and peaceful and reflects me and my love for wood."
