Eagles Mere Kitchen Renovation

Client: Ted & Betsy Lingenheld
Location: Eagles Mere, Pennsylvania
Project Manager: Brendan Jones

Walking into the existing Lingenheld kitchen could only be described as walking into one a fun rooms at an amusement park: walls going one way, the ceiling another, the floor another, and the windows another. You could get seasick hanging around for too long.

Our job consisted of making cabinetry onsite from reclaimed oak wainscot salvaged from 21st and Lombard, and Union League bowling alley for the countertop, salvaged from the Philadelphia Union League. But our main job, as we found out, consisted of salvaging our sanity when it came to constructing a plumb, level and square kitchen.

The fact that Betsy is one of North Carolina's premier high-end contractors, with a summer house in the mountains of Pennsylvania, made the job nice, in the sense that she would appreciate our work. On the other hand, she insisted on painting our fine woodwork pink - or what she called magenta. To add insult to injury she wanted pink - magenta - Marmoleum. We threatened mutiny, but she held her ground. And alas, dear reader, she was right, as the photos show. She wanted something jaunty and Victorian, an update to a cottage kitchen where the hot water heater sat decorated in the corner.

In addition, we had a great time, working hard in the heat, fishing, playing pool, and taking hikes when the time was right. The opportunity to do this job for such great clients was a true gift - one we will not soon forget. Not to mention we picked up some good design tips from Betsy - note the false ceiling puck lights for undercabinet illumination.
